Fabricating customized bulk transportation equipment – bodies and trailers
for difficult to move items – has been the backbone of Hensley Fabricating
And Equipment Co., 17624 Indiana 331, Tippecanoe, since Paul and Joyce
Hensley began in 1962.
Today, Hensley augers, haulers and combination units are found worldwide,
and the company now employs as many as 50 people, more than 20 percent of
whom are Hensley family members!
Travis Hensley, national sales manager, says solving customers’ hauling
problems with equipment that reduces time required for loading, unloading
and transport is what drives the company’s growth. This week, the Hensley
MaxHaul, a super light-weight trailer outfitted with the Hensley Super Auger
System, rolled out the door, It allows a customer to unload product four
times faster than with other equipment, and to haul three tons more of the
product per load. That was good news for Jennie-O Turkey Store, a subsidiary
of Hormel Foods Corp. They’re trying a Hensley on for size this week,
Hensley notes, for potential savings in their vast operation that includes
eight feed mills and 100 company farms located throughout Minnesota and
Wisconsin.
Hensley Fabricating also has produced a new trailer specifically designed
for hauling wood pellets. The pellets, which are now being used in school
furnaces on the East Coast and elsewhere, previously have been packaged and
transported in 50-pound bags, Travis Hensley says. The new trailer allows
for bulk shipments to save money, with the first model going to a wood
pellet company in New Hampshire this coming week.
“Diversification has been the key to our success,” he says, modestly. “We
understand that times are tough out there, and the Lord has really blessed
us. We aren’t bragging. We just thank the Lord for the opportunities placed
in our way.”
Hensley’s diversification program includes expansion of its auger systems
for use in explosives’ blast holes. Hensley Canada distributes equipment
north of the U.S. border and to New England states here at home.
